Benina A. Mascarenas, 83, of Leadville, Colorado since 1963 passed away on April 17, 2017 in Frisco, Colorado. She was born on July 30, 1933 in Dixon, New Mexico to Fidel Lopez and Maria Aguida Lopez. She married Louie (Louis) J. Mascarenas on November 6, 1950 in Taos, New Mexico. Benina was a very proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved cooking for all her kids and grandchildren. She also enjoyed garage sales, puzzles, word searches, spanish music and collecting clocks and cookie jars.
She is survived by her children Joe Mascarenas of Brighton, Bertha Recendez of Leadville, Corinne Mascarenas of Lakewood, Roy Mascarenas (Debbie) of Minturn, Bobby Mascarenas (Eva) of Leadville, Diane Mascarenas (Robert) of Brighton, Anita Mascarenas of Leadville, Janet Cruz (Elevinio Jr.) of Leadville, Rachel Mondragon (David) of Brighton and Fabain Mascarenas (Amanda) of Leadville, numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers Nick Lopez (Julia), Junior Lopez (Josefina) and Alden Lopez; sisters Ruth Montoya-Percina and Arellano Becky Garcia and numerous family from Rocky Ford, New Mexico. She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband Louie (of 52 years), son Carlos, twin boys, sisters Lydia and Rose and brother Dennis.
A Rosary Service will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. A reception will follow the interment at the Leadville Elk’s Lodge.
